Welcombe Mouth Beach in Devon, England is a spectacular stretch of coastline that lies just outside the town of Bideford in North Devon. The beach is part of the Taw-Torridge Estuary, a vast estuary estuary that stretches from the River Taw in the east to the River Torridge in the west. The beach has been designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and is a geological, archaeological and historical treasure trove.

The beach itself is made up of sand and shingle, with a few rocky outcrops. It faces out onto the estuary and is exposed to the full force of the Atlantic Ocean, so is perfect for surfers, body boarders and kayakers who want to take advantage of the waves. It is also a great spot for exploring, with plenty of rock pools and small coves to explore. At low tide, the beach can stretch for a two mile stretch, allowing plenty of space for beachcombers and nature lovers alike.

The beach is home to a wide variety of wildlife. Sealife such as crabs, lobsters, starfish and mussels can be found in the rock pools, while flocks of seabirds, such as gannets, guillemots and oystercatchers, can be seen flying around the estuary. The estuary is also a stop-off point for a variety of migrating birds, such as the bar-tailed godwit and the red knot, making it a great spot for birdwatchers.

At the northern end of the beach lies the Welcombe Cliffs, a series of steep limestone cliffs that are home to a variety of flora and fauna. In spring and summer, the cliffs are covered in wildflowers, such as bluebells, harebells, primroses and foxgloves, while in autumn and winter the cliffs are home to a variety of birds, including gulls, cormorants and kittiwakes.

The area has been inhabited since prehistoric times, with evidence of Mesolithic and Neolithic settlements. There is also evidence of Iron Age occupation, with the remains of a hillfort that dates back to 600 BC. Other archaeological finds include a Bronze Age burial chamber, and a possible Roman villa.
