Torre Abbey is a former monastery situated in the seaside town of Torquay, Devon, England. It is one of the largest and best preserved medieval abbeys in the country, having been founded in 1196. The Abbey was established by William Brewer, a local knight, who established a religious order of Augustinian canons dedicated to the Virgin Mary. The Abbey was initially intended to serve as a place of prayer and contemplation, but over the course of its existence it also gained a reputation as a centre of learning and culture.

The abbey was initially constructed in a Romanesque style, although much of the building was later remodelled in the Gothic style during the 15th century. It is thought that the original design was based on the Augustinian Abbey of St Mary's in York.
