Instow is a small village located on the north bank of the estuary of the River Torridge in North Devon, England. It is a popular tourist spot, with its sandy beach, two pubs, and two restaurants. It is also the site of a Royal Naval Armament Depot and a Royal Marines training base.

Instow was first recorded in the Doomsday Book of 1086, when it was known as ‘Inestou'. The name is believed to come from the Old English words ‘inn' meaning a settlement and ‘stow' meaning a place or a sanctuary. The name has changed over the years, with the ‘n' being dropped in the 17th century.

The village was once a small fishing port, although it is now mainly a holiday destination. The beach is a popular spot for families, with golden sand and rock pools, and a number of water sports and activities available.
