Totnes is a small town located in Devon, England on the River Dart. It is approximately 10 miles south of Exeter and 10 miles east of Plymouth. The population of Totnes is approximately 8,000 people, making it the 17th largest town in Devon. Totnes is an ancient settlement, with evidence of Iron Age and Bronze Age settlements. The town was originally called Tratenece, which means ‘the town on the banks of the River Dart'. It is believed that Totnes was founded by the Romans in the 1st century, and was named after the local Iron Age tribe, the Dumnonii. During the Saxon period, Totnes was a small port and market town.
