St Germans is a small town in the South West of England, located in the county of Devon. It is situated on the River Tiddy, a tributary of the River Tamar and is surrounded by some of the most stunning countryside in the county. St Germans has a long and interesting history dating back to the Saxon times when it was known as 'Tiditecaester'. The name St Germans is thought to originate from the dedication of the church to St Germanus, a 5th century bishop.

The area is best known for St Germans Priory, a 12th century Augustinian priory that was founded by William Warelwast, Bishop of Exeter. The priory was built on the site of an earlier Saxon monastery and was dedicated to St Germanus. Although the priory was dissolved in 1539, the ruins of the building remain and are a popular tourist attraction. The priory was also the birthplace of Edward VI, the only son of King Henry VIII, in 1537.

St Germans has been the home of some famous people including the writer Charles Kingsley who wrote the classic children's book 'The Water Babies' in 1863. His home, which he dubbed 'The Retreat', is now a museum and is open to the public.

St Germans is also home to a number of interesting and unique buildings including St Germans Church, which dates back to the 12th century. The church is a Grade I listed building and is famous for its Norman font and sculptures that adorn the walls. The church also features a number of memorials including one to King Edward VI.

The town is home to a number of other historic buildings such as the Old Vicarage, the Town Hall and the Guildhall. The Old Vicarage was built in 1788 and is now a private residence. The Town Hall was built in the early 19th century and is now used as a community centre. The Guildhall was built in 1820 and is now a pub.

St Germans is an attractive and interesting town with a wealth of history and culture. The town is a popular tourist destination and visitors are drawn to the town by its stunning scenery, its historic buildings and its friendly locals. The town is also home to a number of shops and restaurants, making it a great place to spend a day or two exploring.
